98s Skate Past Rochester Monarchs

The Vipers playing without the services of Evan Daddario who suffered a broken hand in the Kings game, shuffled their deck and put in a solid effort in a 5-1 win over the Rochester Monarchs. The Monarchs would get on the board first to make it 1-0, but less than a minute later Kyle Hentosh (2-1-3) would tip in a shot from Noah Maercklein (2-1-3) to tie the score. The Vipers would then go on to score the next 4 goals. Kyle Hentosh would then tip home a blast from Christian Kukas for the 2-1 lead and Maerckleins first from Kyle Lynch (1-2-3) and Dante Maribito (0-3-3) would stretch the lead to 3-1. Lynch fro Henny and Maribito and Maercklein from JT Chamberlain and Aaron Dollin would close out the scoring in this one. Aaron McDonnell was solid between the pipes for the Vipers in this one, who got strong efforts on the blueline from Patrick McCarthy and Christian Kukas. Alex Delvento who moved up front also played well

The Vipers opened defense of their EHF Invitational Championship with a strong effort but came up just short dropping a 4-3 decision to the talented Kings. Both teams exchanged a couple of scoring chances in the exciting first period but the score would stand at 0-0 after both goalies came up with some key stops for their team. The Vipers finally broke through on the PP with 6 minutes left in the second period as JT Chamberlain one-timed home the rebound of a nice shot by Steven Tettoni, Patrick McCarthy also picking up a helper on the play, and that is how the second period would end. It took the Kings exactly one minute to flex their muscle and tie the score at 1. A minute and a half later Kyle Lynch(0-2-2) would jump on a Kings turnover at their blueline who would push the puck to Dante Maribito who would push the puck to Kyle Hentosh (1-1-2) and they would go on a 2v0, Henny would slide it back over to Maribito who would bury the go ahead goal to go up 2-1. Just 17 seconds later the Kings would charge back and tie the game at 2. A little over a minute later the Kings would grab their first lead at 3-2, but just 26 seconds later Christian Kukas would take a pass from Lynchy and take a blast from the point that Kyle Hentosh would do a good job of redirecting past the helpless Kings goaler. The Kings would then strike back for good 2 minutes later with the game winner coming on the power play. The Vipers would get what appeared to be the equalizer again but the official blew the whistle before the puck crawled over the line. SO if you are keeping track at home thats 6 goals in 6 minutes between both teams to start the exciting third period between these 2 evenly matched teams. The Vipers are back at it tomorrow afternoon against the Rochester Monarchs.

99Elites v Cyclones, 6-3 / U16 MERRYMAN - TIER 1

The Vipers returned back to Hudson, NH less than 24 hours later to take on the Cyclones in the regular season finale. The Vipers were victim of “road legs” and were quickly down 2-0. The Vipers found some rhythm in the second period with Conor Crovo getting the Vipers on the board. The team went on to score 5 unanswered goals pulling away. Michael Gillis added two goals with Iannuzzi, Tibbets and Scaromozzino added scores. All five defenseman were very effective in the second and third period to secure the win.

98 Elites Close Out Regular Season With Win, 7-0 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

The 98's finished the NEHL Regular Season by beating the well coached Worcester Crusaders at home by the score of 7-0. The Vipers finished a solid 24-2-2 earning 50 out of a possible 56 points within the league, a great accomplishment for the team. The Vipers jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead against the scrappy Crusaders on a goal by Evan Daddario (2-1-3) as he raced down the right wall and fired a shot that beat the Worcester goalie 5-hole, Steven Tettoni and Noah Maercklein (1-2-3) would pick up the assists. Dom Cappadonna would then score on a screen shot from the point with Patcrick McCarthy and Kyle Hentosh (0-3-3) adding the helpers and with just 40 seconds left in the first JT Chamberlain (2-0-2)�would stretch the lead to 3. Noah Maercklein would get the �only goal in the second period on the Power play as his shot from the point found the back of the net, Lynchy and Henny picked up the helpers. Lynchy from Henny, Evan and JT's second of the game would round out the scoring in this one. Christian Kukas, Braden Haley, Ross Wahl and Brendan White would all add single helpers. Aaron McDonnell would pick up the shutout going the distance between the pipes. The 98s will look to defend their EHF Invitational Championship next weekend when they travel to Marlboro.

In the first game of a weekend series, the Vipers came storming out and built a three – zero lead with goals by Tyler Hughey, Sal Costanzo and PJ Iannuzzi. The Cyclones fought back during the middle stanza to make this game much closer than the score showed. Costanzo chipped in two more for a hat trick while Michael Gillis, Rob Tibbets and Greg McGunigle also scored.

98s Skate Past Pesky Red Rangers, 4-1 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

The 98 Elites opened up a 3-0 lead after one period and were able to hold on against the team that nobody wants to play in the post season Red Rangers by a score of 4-1. The Vipers came out of of the gates with plenty of intensity as Kyle Lynch would get them on the board with a very nice unassisted individual effort as he went end to end utilizing his speed to breaking alone and bury a wrister to the stick side for the 1-0 lead. Kyle Hentosh would get the next one on the power play as he would be in front to re-direct a shot from Noah Maercklein, Lynchy would also pick up an assist on the play as the Vipers had some pretty nice puck movement on the PP. Kyle Lynch would strike again as he easily banged home a rebound off Dom Cappadona's one timer from the point, Brendan White picked up an assist on the play as well. Ross Wahl would extend the lead to 4-0 as he took a sweet dish from Noah Maercklein from behind the net, made a quick move to his left and slid the puck into the open net, Evan Daddario also picked up an assist. Zach Laramie would go the distance in the nets loosing out on the shutout late in the third on a pretty Red Ranger goal. The Vipers close out there NEHL Regular season on Sunday at home against the Worcester Crusaders.

98 Elites Go 5-0 at Loomis Chaffe Prep Showcase / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

The Vipers continued to play some fine hockey in pushing their win streak to 20 games while in the process of winning all 5 games of the Loomis Chaffee Prep Cup, a very impressive accomplishment finishing the tournament with 2 shutouts.

Vipers 5 Syracuse Nationals 3

The Vipers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in this one while trying to get untracked against a very strong Syracuse team. Kyle Lynch (2-1-3) and Evan Daddario (2-0-2) would pace the attack in this one and Kyle Hentosh (1-1-2) would score the Vipers first goal. Dante Maribito (0-2-2), Ross Wahl and Christian Kukas would all add helpers. Zach Laramie would take center stage in this one though as he stood tall between the pipes and played a very solid game including a strong third period as Syracuse was applying heavy pressure. Lynchy's shortie just 30 seconds into the 2nd half to push the lead to 4-2 proved to be the biggest goal. The penalty killing units did a god job in this one as well as they shut down a very dangerous Nationals power play.

Vipers 5 Buffalo Regals 4

The Vipes came out in this one and played a very sloppy and un-inspired game in this one but did enough to get the victory 5-4 in this one as Noach Maercklein(1-1-2) would bang home the game winner with 34 seconds left. Dante Maribito (2-1-3) would lead the offensive charge. Alex Delvento would score a pretty goal off a pass from Kyle Hentosh (0-3-3) collect it at the point and let a wrist shot go that would find its way up under the bar that would put the Vipers up 4-3. The Regals would tie the score with just under 5 minutes left in the game. Noah Maercklein would be the hero in this as the Vipers would end up on the power play for the last minute of the game and they would cash in as Noah Maercklein would bang home a loose puck with just 34 seconds left in the game, Maribito and Hentosh picked up the helpers after some nice puck movement. Steven Tetoni and JT Chamberlain would also pick up assists in this one. Patrick McCarthy and Christian Kukas were also strong on the blue line and Aaron McDonnell went the distance and played well in the cage.

Vipers 8 CT Wolfpack 3

The 98s would make the Wolfpack pay for their undisciplined questionable play at times and cash in on 4 power play goals as they would go on to rout the Wolfpack 8-3. The Vipers would be in control of this one after jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the 1st half, the big blow coming off the stick of Dante Maribito (1-3-4) with just 22 seconds left in the 1st half. Kyle Lynch would continue his strong play as he chipped in with the Hat Trick (3-1-4) and Kyle Hentosh(1-3-4) would add a shorthanded goal. Evan Daddario (2-1-3) and Noah Maercklein (0-2-2) would also have multiple point games. Brendan White would chip in with what would be the game winner and JT Chamberlain, Christian Kukas and Ross Wahl would all add single helpers. Steven Tettoni, Alex Delvento and Patrick McCarthy all had solid games from the blueline. Zach Laramie continued the Vipers trend of strong goaltending play in this one as well. The Vipers would do a great job at staying composed and disciplined in this one down the stretch as frustration would set in late.

Vipers 1 VT Glades 0

Aaron McDonnell would pitch a shutout in this one which also doubled as a NEHL league game for both the Glades and Vipers as the Vipers would clinch 1st place in the NEHL 98 American Division with the 1-0 win. Aaron made many fine stops in this one and played big in the 3rd period especially when the Glades would pull their goalie. The game winning goal would come off the stick of Kyle Hentosh while on the power play as he jumped on a rebound from a Noah Maercklein shot and one timed a shot from the slot 5 hole. Defenseman Ryan Connearney, Dom Cappadona, Christian Kukas, Steven Tettoni, Patrick McCarthy, Aaron Dollin and Alex Delvento were instrumental in this one doing a fine job of clearing pucks and limiting scoring chances.

Vipers 4 New England Falcons 0

In the final game of the showcase the Vipers would win this one going away scoring 4 goals in the 2nd half while using a heavy forecheck, excellent special teams play, solid goaltending and air tight team defense in putting up the 4-0 shutout over the New England Falcons. Both teams would play a pretty good 1st half each having their chances and doing their best at slowing each other down. Kyle Lynch would put the Vipers up 1-0 as he would fire a wrister from the left circle past the glove side. Noah Maercklein(1-1-2) was up next as he fired an absolute laser from the top of the slot up under the bar for the 2-0 lead. The play was set up by some tenascious forechecking and then some nice cycling by Evan Daddario (0-2-2) and Ross Wahl as Ross made a sweet dish to Noah high in the slot. Just 2 minutes later JT Chamberlain would add a power play goal and put this one out of reach as he would knock in a loose puck out front for the 3-0 lead with 8 minutes left. Maercklein and Daddario picking up the helpers. Dante Maribito would add an empty netter with 40 seconds left to finish this one up. Zach Laramie finished up the weekend with another very strong performance making many fine stops in this one as he continues his fine play. Patrick McCarthy who has been playing well of late was very strong on the blue line making many good decisions, reads and steps. The Vipers players and coaches should be very proud of their accomplishments this weekend playing some great hockey, going 5-0 and clinching 1st place in their league as well

99Vipers Sweep Blazers, 7-4 / U16 MERRYMAN - TIER 1

In the second game of the weekend series, the Vipers clawed back after being down 4-1. The Vipers stormed back with 6 unanswered goals to secure a 7-4 victory. Michael Gillis had a hat trick to kick start the comeback.

The Vipers faced off against the Boch Blazers in the first game of a home and home series. After a slow start, the Vipers poured it on racking up a 9 of total goals. The Vipers were lead by Michael Gillis and Sal Costanzo who had two goals each. Also tallying for the Vipers were Greg McGunigle, Conor Crovo, Rob Tibbets, Sam Cioffi and Kasey O’Brien.

98Elites Skate Past Monarchs, 7-1 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

The 98s kept things rolling with another solid outing as they skated past the well coached New Hampshire Jr Monarchs 7-1 at the Cronin Rink in Revere. The Green Line of Kyle Lynch (1-4-5) Kyle Hentosh (3-1-4) and Dante Maribito(2-2-4) paced the offense for the home team, as they connected on a couple of pretty goals and moved the puck well all night while also committing to all 3 zones as well. Braden Haley from Brendan White picked up the other tally. Zach Laramie and Aaron McDonnell split the game and the game was highlighted by a terrific glove save by McDonnell in the third. The Vipers continue to play solid team defense in front of their goalies as Steven Tettoni, Alex Delvento, Patrick McCarthy, Aaron Dollin, Ryan Connearney, Dom Cappadonna and Christian Kukas all had solid efforts from the blue line. The 98s take next weekend off from NEHL play and travel to Loomis Chaffe Prep School in CT for the Loomis Chaffe Prep Showcase where they will take on the likes of the Syracuse Nationals and Buffalo Regals as well as old rival the New England Jr Falcons.
