Greater Boston Vipers Coach Scott Hentosh brings in a Viper team that is expected to be very good. Goaltender Zach Laramie has been rising in the eyes of a lot of scouts. Following their game with Team Comcast Friday morning, the Vipers will return to the rink later that night to play the Yankees. In front of goalies Zach Laramie and Aaron McDonnell will be defensemen Brian Groom, Dom Cappadona, Steven Tettoni, Christian Kukas and Aaron Dollin, while up front are Brandon Lafata, Noah Maercklein, Kyle Lynch, Kyle Hentosh, JT Chamberlain, Braden Haley, Alex Delvento, Brendan White, Dante Maribito, and Ross Wahl. (Youth1 Hockey) - The bantam major season is always an exciting one for youth hockey players, as they have the opportunity to play in the USA Hockey National Championship. SuperSeries AAA, some of the premier youth hockey tournaments in the world, has four bantam major events in the opening month of the season, all of which will include teams that have a legitimate shot of playing for in the national championship.
Here is a look at those events.
New Jersey Super98 (Randolph, NJ)
This showcase will pit four very strong teams against each other. Two of the favorites in the AYHL will be in attendance as Team Comcast and the New Jersey Devils are both expected to be top 10 teams and compete for the Atlantic District spot at Nationals. The Mid Fairfield Yankees, who are no longer part of the AYHL, will try to get the season off to a strong start. The fourth team is an interesting one. The Greater Boston Vipers were a very good team last year, but they appear to be much improved and look forward to getting a shot at some top-notch competition
The Vipers and Seacoast both won twice. Kyle Lynch scored twice and Noah Maercklein had two assists as the Vipers beat the Red Rangers, 4-1 - and Evan Daddario had two goals and an assist, Maercklein posted 1-2-3, Kyle Hentosh had three assists, John Chamberlain also scored twice, Lynch had 1-1-2 and Aaron McDonnell and Zach Laramie shared the shutout in a 7-0 victory over the Crusaders; Tate Singleton came through with 1-2-3, Anthony Cosentino scored twice and Ty Turgeon had 1-1-2 in Seacoast's 8-2 win over the Wizards, who got 1-1-2 from Richard Murphy and two assists from Mario Cutone - and Byron Welch scored the winner with 3:14 left and Singleton scored twice as the Spartans edged the Monarchs, 4-3, Matt Quercia with two goals and Nate Rumford two assists in the loss;
Josh Chapman had two assists and Isaac Leslie, Alex Passafiume and Pat Swanosn scored in a 5:10 span of the first period as the Monarchs defeated Pro Ambitions, 5-1; and Louis Finocchiaro delivered 1-2-3 and Tom Sullivan 1-1-2 as the Red Rangers beat Pro Ambitions, 4-2.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Noah Maercklein, Vipers
The 98's finished the NEHL Regular Season by beating the well coached Worcester Crusaders at home by the score of 7-0. The Vipers finished a solid 24-2-2 earning 50 out of a possible 56 points within the league, a great accomplishment for the team. The Vipers jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead against the scrappy Crusaders on a goal by Evan Daddario (2-1-3) as he raced down the right wall and fired a shot that beat the Worcester goalie 5-hole, Steven Tettoni and Noah Maercklein (1-2-3) would pick up the assists. Dom Cappadonna would then score on a screen shot from the point with Patcrick McCarthy and Kyle Hentosh (0-3-3) adding the helpers and with just 40 seconds left in the first JT Chamberlain (2-0-2) would stretch the lead to 3. Noah Maercklein would get the only goal in the second period on the Power play as his shot from the point found the back of the net, Lynchy and Henny picked up the helpers. Lynchy from Henny, Evan and JT's second of the game would round out the scoring in this one. Christian Kukas, Braden Haley, Ross Wahl and Brendan White would all add single helpers. Aaron McDonnell would pick up the shutout going the distance between the pipes. The 98s will look to defend their EHF Invitational Championship next weekend when they travel to Marlboro.
