98Vipers Tie Up Huskies, 3-3 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

Sunday, October 18, 2009, 4:00AM

In another game where the Vipers controlled play for the entire game, and had a huge territorial advantage they did not produce on the scoreboard as they managed a disappointing tie with the scrappy Huskies 3-3. The Huskies were led by an absolute dominant performance by their goaltender who made save after save for the entire game. Kyle Hentosh took a nice feed from Kyle Lynch to go in alone and give the visitors the 1-0 lead just 2 minutes into the game. The Vipers would apply constant pressure every shift but could not get anything by the athletic goaltender. JT Chamberlain put the Vipers up 2-1 on a nice wrist shot over the shoulder to go up 2-0 just 20 seconds into the second period. The Huskies would answer 5 minutes later and cut the lead in half. Kyle Lynch would go top shelf with a nice backhand to extend the lead to 3-1 early in the third, but the Huskies would score 2 more in the third, the last coming with just 3 minutes left in the game to walk away with the hard earned point

98Vipers Scratched by Panthers, 1-3 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

Saturday, October 17, 2009, 4:00AM

The 98's took on the Nashua Panthers on Saturday and despite playing well for most of the game ended up on the wrong side of a 3-1 score. Despite holding a wide margin in shots the Vipers could not solve the strong goaltending of the Panthers. The game was tight throughout and was a very entertaining game as both teams played hard. The Vipers grabbed the 1-0 lead late in the second period as Kyle Hentosh finished off some nice passing from Dante Maribito and Kyle Lynch. Nashua would tie the score at one as a nice bounce would find the back of the net. Nashua would go up 2-1 as the game winner would come off a Vipers stick inadvertently attempting to clear the front of the net, and would then go on to score a late goal with a minute left to seal the game

98Vipers v Syracuse, 0-6 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

Saturday, October 10, 2009, 4:00AM

The Vipers took on powerhouse Syracuse Nationals on Saturday in an afternoon affair that was kicked off by a fabulous rendition of our Nations Anthem as the Middlesex Drum and Bugle Corps brought the house down with the Anthem performed all on flutes. Nick Fiorentino got the start between the pipes and played well as he left the game with the home team trailing 2-0 late in the second. Noach Maercklein looked like he had cut the lead in half but his goal was called off. The Nationals would strike again in the third with about 8 minutes left to go up 3-0, that's the way this one looked like it was going to end but the visitors tacked on 3 goals in the last 2:30 to coast to the 6-0 win. The Vipers played inspired hockey for 43 of the 45 minutes but left their guard down just a bit at the end and a very strong Syracuse team capitalized

98Vipers Drop Nail-Biter to Warrior-Elite, 3-4 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

Sunday, October 4, 2009, 4:00AM

The Vipers lost their first game in their last 10 tries as they came up short against a very talented VJW Elite team 4-3. The Vipers jumped out to a 2-0 lead early as Noah Maercklein jammed in a goal mouth scramble just 45 seconds into the game, assists went to Ryan Connearney And JT Chamberlain. Kyle Lynch would put the visitors up 2-0 late in the first with an off angle shot that found the back of the net, goal was set up and assisted by Dante Maribito with some pesky forechecking. The Warriors would score 2 pretty goals in the first 2 minutes of the second to tie and go on to control the second period but it would end 2-2. The Warriors cashed in on their only power play of the game to go ahead 3-2 and then with just under 3 minutes to play cashed in again to make it 4-2. The resilient Vipers would not go away though as a minute later they answered the bell when Kyle Lynch picked up his second of the game crashing hard to the net and knocking in a rebound of a Maribito shot, Kyle Hentosh also assisted on the play. The Vipers managed to pull their goalie put could not mount much of an attack in the last 45 seconds.

98Vipers v Assabet, 1-0 / U15 SPLIT - TIER 1

Saturday, October 3, 2009, 4:00AM

The 98's extended their unbeaten streak to 9 games with a very impressive win over a solid Assabet Valley team. Smothering the Patriots with impressive puck hunting skills all afternoon the visitors were able to head out with a hard earned 1-0 victory. The Vipers goal came on the power play with 4 minutes left in the first period, as JT Chamberlain banged in a shot off a nice set up on the side wall from Dante Maribito and Kyle Lynch. The Viper defense of Greg McHale, Ryan Connearney, Aaron Dollin, Christian Kukas, Matty Tauro and Patrick McCarthy did an outstanding job of keeping everything to the outside and giving Aaron McDonnell a nice afternoon. McDonnell only had to come up with about 4 saves to earn the shutout. At the other end a solid performance by the AVP goalie kept them in the game until the end.
