Coach Maribito pegged it "Mission 6W" for the 98's as they emabarked on their last Tournament of the year, it would end on Monday as the 98 Vipers would upend the NV River Rats 4-2 to take home the crown
vs. Boston Jr Blackhawks - The 98's would score 4 times in the second period to skate past the Blackhawks 8-0, The Red Line of Noah Maercklein (4-1-5), Rob Murphy (0-2-2) and Brendan White (1-3-4) led the charge for the offense. Jt Chamberlain (1-1-2) would get what would prove to be the game winner and Dante Maribito and Aaron Dollin would add singles, while Patrick McCarthy, Jack Moretti and Kyle Hentosh would all add assists. Andrew Krajeski would give way to Aaron McDonnell in the third period as they both split the shutout..
vs. Conneticut Wolves - The Vipers would start a little slow but in the end their effort would be enough as they defeated the Wolves of the MBHL 4-0 Brendan White (1-0-1) and JT Chamberlain (1-0-1) would get the Vipers on the board with a 2-0 lead after Kyle Lynch (1-1-2) and Kyle Hentosh (1-0-1) would finish off the scoring, Dante Maribito would chip in with 2 helpers and Christian Kukas would grab another helper. Aarron McDonnell would start this one and then Andrew Krajeski would finish up a fine effort between the pipes..
vs Portland Pirates - The Vipers would move to 3-0 on the weekend with a 8-1 win over the pesky pirates, this one would get physical on both ends, which seemed to favor the bigger stronger Vipers. The Green Line would lead the charge in this one As Kyle Lynch (2-1-3), Kyle Hentosh (2-3-5) and Dante Maribito (1-2-3). Andrew Krajeski would hold the fort down between the pipes. The Viper defense also have stepped up as they allowed just their first goal off the tournament. Chris Goggin (1-0-1), Aaron Dollin (1-0-1) and JT Chamberlain (1-1-2)
vs Neponset Valley River Rats - of the Mass Select League was up next and they came into the game and controled play and the tempo of the play a whole bunch. Andrew Krajeski replaced Aaron McDonnell, and Dante Maribito and JT Chamberlain would find the back of the net for the Vipers but it wasn't enough as the Rats outworked, and out hustled the sloppy Vipers and won with a score of 4-2.
The loss drops the Vipers to 4th place as they will now take on the Long Island Gulls in the semi-finals. The Green line would povide the offense and Aaron McDonnell would stand tall and get the win. 3-1 coming from behind. Dante Maribito (2-1-3) Kyle Lynch (0-2-2) and Kyle Hentosh ( 1-2-3) would account for all the scoring. Patrick MacCarthy and Christian Kukas would turn in solid efforts from the blueline
This would set the stage for the Finlas between the Vipers and the NV River Rats, and an entertaining final it was, as the Rats jumped out to a 1-0 but were quickly answered by JT Chamberlain (1-0-1) with an assist going to Chris Goggin, the Green line would provide the rest of the scoring again as Dante Maribito (2-1-3) wold score the next 2 goals and Kyle Hentosh (1-1-2) would secure the win with his, Kyle Lynch chipped in with 3 helpers. Andrew Krajeski would turn in a solid effort between the pipes, Heath King, Christian Kukas and Patrick McCarthy all continued their solid play over the weekend. This was a very entertaining game between 2 good hockey clubs, but the Vipers were flying from the start and continued to play better as the game wore on, as they were crowned 2009 Presidents Day Tournamnet Champions.
