Friday, May 22, 2009, 4:00AM

The 98Vipers will be participating in the North Shore Medical Center Cancer Walk on Sunday June 21, 2009. Proceeds from this years walk will directly benefit the expansion and relocation of the NSMC Cancer Center to the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in Danvers.

The 98Vipers is made up of young hockey players ages 10/ 11 who reside throughout the North Shore and Greater Boston area. To give our players a better understanding of the adversities in life that people are faced with and to keep in perspective that the game of hockey is just that..a game, we have decided to walk as a team in this year's event. We also have many families on our team who have been directly affected by this ferocious disease and we walk in support of them as well, just as we support our teammates on the ice.

We are reaching out to you so that you may help us reach our goal,  as we Shoot For A Cure ! Please follow the link below to our Fundraising Page where you will find that donating is extremely quick and easy.

Sunday, February 22, 2009, 5:00AM

The 98's spotted the Riverhawks a 3-0 first period lead before settling down and ripping off 7 unanswered goals to coast to the victory. The Green Line of Kyle Lynch (3-2-5) Dante Maribito (2-3-5) and Kyle Hentosh (1-5-6) would account for 6 of the Vipers 8 goals. This would be a very chippy affair that saw the Vipers display incredible discipline to keep their cool throughout. Heath King and JT Chamberlain(1-1-2) would add singles for the Vipers. Chris Goggin, Rob Murphy and Patrick McCarthy all stepped up and played a fine game, the latter dishing out a nice check in the third period while holding the blue line. Aaron McDonnell and Andrew Krajeski shared the duties in this one and both did a fine job.

98's Can't Stop Avalanche, 2-4

Saturday, February 21, 2009, 5:00AM

The 98's went up north to play the New Hampshire Avalanche and may not have won the game but continued to take great strides in their development this season dropping a 5-2 decision. Playing full contact for only the second game all season the Vipers more than held their own against a very talented Avs team. The Vipers played physical and matched the Avs shift to shift, but in the end the Vipers made a few to many mental errors that a good Avs team capitalized on. Avs jumped out ahead just 1:33 into the game and closed the period with the same lead. Heath King tied the game with one of the prettiest goals of the year as he took a feed from JT Chamberlain on the left wall and made a nice cut to the middle of the ice avoiding a check and wristed one over the glove. The Avs would then hit the Vipers with a crushing blow scoring 2 goals in the last 25 seconds of the second period, which the Vipers couldn't recover from. Dante Maribito would finish off a nice feed from Kyle Lynch to pull the Vipers within 1 but thats as close as they would get. Andrew Krajeski would come on in relief between the pipes to have a solid outing.

vs. Boston Jr Blackhawks - The 98's would score 4 times in the  second period to skate past the Blackhawks 8-0, The Red Line of Noah Maercklein (4-1-5), Rob Murphy (0-2-2) and Brendan White (1-3-4) led the charge for the offense. Jt Chamberlain (1-1-2) would get what would prove to be the game winner and Dante Maribito and Aaron Dollin would add singles, while Patrick McCarthy, Jack Moretti and Kyle Hentosh would all add assists. Andrew Krajeski would give way to Aaron McDonnell in the third period as they both split the shutout..

vs. Conneticut Wolves - The Vipers would start a little slow but in the end their effort would be enough as they defeated the Wolves of the MBHL 4-0 Brendan White (1-0-1) and JT Chamberlain (1-0-1) would get the Vipers on the board with a 2-0 lead after Kyle Lynch (1-1-2) and Kyle Hentosh (1-0-1) would finish off the scoring, Dante Maribito would chip in with 2 helpers and Christian Kukas would grab another helper. Aarron McDonnell would start this one and then Andrew Krajeski would finish up a fine effort between the pipes..

vs Portland Pirates - The Vipers would move to 3-0 on the weekend with a 8-1 win over the pesky pirates, this one would get physical on both ends, which seemed to favor the bigger stronger Vipers. The Green Line would lead the charge in this one As Kyle Lynch (2-1-3), Kyle Hentosh (2-3-5) and Dante Maribito (1-2-3). Andrew Krajeski would hold the fort down between the pipes. The Viper defense also have stepped up as they allowed just their first goal off the tournament. Chris Goggin (1-0-1), Aaron Dollin (1-0-1) and JT Chamberlain (1-1-2)

vs Neponset Valley River Rats - of the Mass Select League was up next and they came into the game and controled play and the tempo of the play a whole bunch. Andrew Krajeski replaced Aaron McDonnell, and Dante Maribito and JT Chamberlain would find the back of the net for the Vipers but it wasn't enough as the Rats outworked, and out hustled the sloppy Vipers and won with a score of 4-2.

The loss drops the Vipers to 4th place as they will now take on the Long Island Gulls in the semi-finals. The Green line would povide the offense and Aaron McDonnell would stand tall and get the win. 3-1 coming from behind. Dante Maribito (2-1-3) Kyle Lynch (0-2-2) and Kyle Hentosh ( 1-2-3) would account for all the scoring. Patrick MacCarthy and Christian Kukas would turn in solid efforts from the blueline

This would set the stage for the Finlas between the Vipers and the NV River Rats, and an entertaining final it was, as the Rats jumped out to a 1-0  but were quickly answered by JT Chamberlain (1-0-1) with an assist going to Chris Goggin, the Green line would provide the rest of the scoring again as Dante Maribito (2-1-3) wold score the next 2 goals and Kyle Hentosh (1-1-2) would secure the win with his, Kyle Lynch chipped in with 3 helpers. Andrew Krajeski would turn in a solid effort between the pipes, Heath King, Christian Kukas and Patrick McCarthy all continued their solid play over the weekend. This was a very entertaining game between 2 good hockey clubs, but the Vipers were flying from the start and continued to play better as the game wore on, as they were crowned 2009 Presidents Day Tournamnet Champions.

Vipers Can't Dig out of Hole, 4-7

Sunday, February 8, 2009, 5:00AM

The Vipers dug themselves to big of a hole to get out of as they spotted the Glades a 4 goal lead before chipping away late in the game but ended up on the short end of a 7-4 decision. The 98's would find themselves down 3-0 early on 2 Glade power play goals. Kyle Lynch and Kyle Hentosh would then hook up on a incredible goal as Hentosh would carry the puck down the left wall, he would hold onto the puck around a sprawling defenseman, below the goaline and at the last minute he would dish an incredible pass to a streaking Lynchy high in the slot who would bury it to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Glades would however go on to score 5 goals int he second period to extend their lead. Like they have done all year the 98's refused to lay down as they would score 2 goals in 11 seconds to cut the lead in half, the first on another pretty goal while on the power play, moving the puck nicely and showing excellent puck possession skill Kyle Lynch would feed Aaron Dollin who dropped down nicely into some open space and fire a wrist shot short side. Heath King would then bang in a rebound off a Brendan White rocket with JT Chamberlain also picking up an assist, and finally Dante Maribito would finish off an incredible individual effort after being stopped on a breakaway would gather his own rebound circle the net, hold onto the puck long enough and then put one top shelf where Grandma keeps the cookies. Andrew Krajeski came in and played very nicely between the pipes in relief.

The 98's turned in a very solid effort in earning a 2-2 tie with the Vermont Glades a team that had beaten them 6-0 very early in the season. The Glades would jump out 1-0 with just 29 seconds left in the period. Heath King would pounce on a loose puck in front and jam home the rebound to tie things up at 1, helpers went to Brendan White and JT Chamberlain. The Glades would go up 2-1 with just 5 minutes left on a power play goal. Andrew Krajeski's play in the net would allow the Vipers to stage a late comback as Kyle Lynch would break down the left wing and fire a wrist shot that would deflect of a Glades defenseman and find the back of the net to tie the score with 1:39 left in the game, Ryan Connearney would get the assist as he made a nice outlet pass to send Lynchy in on the 1 on 1.

Saturday, February 7, 2009, 5:00AM

It took the Warriors three third period goals to get by the Vipers on Saturday as the two teams hooked up for an entertaining game. The Warriors jumped out to the 1-0 lead midway through the first, but the Vipers would answer just 2 1/2 minutes later as Dante Maribito would tie it up, Kyle Hentosh and Kyle Lynch would both pick up the assists as the score remained 1-1 at the end of two periods. It was a great up and down game but the Vipers were just not able to sustain the intensity as the Warriors struck for 2 goals just 10 seconds apart to go up 3-1 and then sealed it their fourth as they went on to the 4-1 win. Aaron McDonnell played a strong game between the pipes.

Vipers Can't Come All the Way Back.  In the second game of the doubleheader just 1 hour later the Vipers spotted the Rats a lead of 4-1, closed it to 4-3 but could not get the equalizer as they fell 5-3 to the Rats. Kyle Hentosh started the scoring for the Vipers as he finished off a nice feed from Dante Maribito to cut the lead to 2-1, the Rats would extend their lead to 4-1 in the first before Heath King would cut the lead in half with the helper going to JT Chamberlain. JT would pull the Vipes to within 1 in the second period with an unassisted tally but thats as close as they would get as the rats scored a late goal on a pretty backhand over the shoulder of Aaron McDonnell who came on in relief of Andrew Krajeski

98Vipers Upend Albany Rats, 2-1

Saturday, January 24, 2009, 5:00AM

The 98's continued their fine play with a thrilling 2-1 win over the Albany River Rats in the first of two games. Kyle Hentosh got the Vipes on the board in the first as he shoveled home a rebound on a shot from Ryan Connearney with just 6 seconds left in the first period. The score would stay that way until well into the third period thanks to some fine goaltending by Aaron McDonnell, but with just 3:51 left and Albany on the Power Play they tied the score at 1 with a fine power play goal. The 98's would not be denied as they had worked extremely hard the entire game. Off a D-zone face-off Kyle Lynch did his job and raced to his point, blocked a shot and raced in all alone and roofed a shot into the top corner short side to give the Vipers the much deserved 2-1 win
